Construction Begins

Work was done on all three sets of stairs on the property today.  The back and side stairs had their landings torn down and some of the remaining framework was reinforced.  Repairs and reinforcement were done to the front stairs.

The biggest change for residents today is that the back door from the basement is no longer useable for going and coming by those whose apartments are on that level.  Those residents will have to go down the hallway and use stairs that lead up to the ground level in the front of the building.  It's unclear how the residents in the basement who are confined to wheelchairs will be able to access their apartments.

 This is the stop step coming off the front landing.  It appears they replaced the one that had rusted out holes in it (see GALLERY tab at top of this page) with a step from one of the staircases they tore down today.

 The blocks and lumber are reinforcements installed today.
